Landmark Supreme Court ruling for homeless people

13 May 2015

In a move that has been welcomed by numerous homelessness charities, the Supreme Court today ruled that councils will have to adopt a new approach to providing housing to people who are vulnerable and homeless. 

"This ruling represents a major step in tackling the injustice faced by so many single homeless people in England today." -John Sparkes, Crisis

The ruling found many local authorities have wrongly been assessing need in relation to those deemed “street homeless”. As a result, single homeless people will no longer have to prove they are particularly vulnerable compared to other homeless people in order to qualify for support.
