Resilient resettlement for ex-homeless people

While there is much good work being done by homelessness agencies, no one would say that the current model of homelessness services is working perfectly.  Despite growth in funding for homelessness services over the past 30 years, rates of rough sleeping have remained relatively constant. The current approach of homelessness services prioritises housing, employment and health care – worthy goals, but well short of the sort of relationships, lifestyles and community engagement that build identity and create fulfilling independent lives. It is estimated that around half of all individuals who enter housing and resettlement programmes return to the streets or to homelessness services.
