On 22 April, supported by the Mayor of London and with funding from Arts Council England, the British Council and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, specialist arts and homelessness organisations from Brazil and the UK came together to celebrate and discuss the benefits of the arts in approaches to tackling homelessness.
'With One Voice' (@With1V) was an event that took place at the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in London to celebraate the artistic achievements of around 300 performers who had experienced homelessness. As part of the legacy of that event a special delegation was invited from Brazil, including the Deputy Mayor of Rio Adilson Pires, who spoke on homelessness in Rio. Also present was Richard Blakeway the Deputy Mayor of Housing in London who contrasted the approaches to homelessness in the UK and Brazil.
The Brazil delegation travelled first to Manchester and then London suring their week long stay and left a lasting impression on all those whom they came into contact with, as they exchanged ideas and best practice with various UK organisations.
Performances were provided by Streetwise Opera, Cardboard Citizens and the Choir With No Name.
