UPDATE: Bringing Orchestras into Prisons and YOIs

13 May

Lemos&Crane have been working in partnership with Orchestras Live to explore the possibility of developing orchestral activities within custodial settings. To this end we have arranged a free seminar to discuss the benefits and opportunities of music, and in particular orchestral music, in prisons and YOIs.

Being able to perform and collaborate in a group provides a space for prisoners and young offenders to express their emotions and fears. Engagement with music, including projects with orchestras, can have an enormous effect for the rehabilitation of offenders. At the same time it fosters social skills through group interaction and taking on responsibility for a collective project.

You can find out more about the project here and the free seminar coming up on 15 June here.

This project is part of a larger scheme of work that we are carrying out called the Good Prisona comprehensive, holistic model of the ethos and activities for prisons and prisoners to help them to build a better life for the future.
